  • What is DBT JRF?

The Department offers grants to biotechnology students who want to pursue PhD research at one of the country's universities or research organisations. The "Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET)" is used to choose the applicants. For selection, the Government of India's reservation guidelines are followed. Two sorts of merit lists are created based on BET performance (Category-I and Category-II). Under Category-I, the top 275 students in BET are chosen.

Candidates who are chosen under Category-II are eligible to be appointed in any DBT-sponsored project and receive fellowships comparable to NET/GATE, subject to institutional selection. Principal Investigators (PIs) of DBT-funded studies are not obligated to choose JRF from the category-II list for their study. Candidates who are selected in category II will not be eligible for any DBT-JRF fellowships. The Biotechnology Eligibility Examination (BET) will be held by the Regional Center for Biotechnology, Faridabad, starting in 2023.

The Biotechnology Eligibility Exam (BET) is a nationwide eligibility test that will be used to select applicants for the DBT JRF 2023. Applicants for the test must be interested in pursuing a PhD degree in biotechnology. The National Center for Cell Sciences is in charge of organising the test.

    1. While filling out the application form, it is essential for applicants to pick three different cities as the Exam centre.
    2. The fellowship will be for three years at first, with the possibility of a two-year extension depending on the candidate's performance.
    3. The test conducting body will issue two merit lists when the exam is completed: category I merit list and category II merit list.
    4. Those who qualify for category I will be shortlisted for DBT's next fellowship programme, while those who qualify for category II will get a fellowship from a project that is equal to NET/ GATE.

The goal of this fellowship is to encourage applicants to pursue biotechnology and life science research. Candidates are chosen based on their performance on the "Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET)." Interested individuals must check that they are eligible before applying.

Fellows are selected using an annual online Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET), which generates two kinds of merit lists (Category-I and Category-II) based on reservation standards set out by the Indian government. Fellows selected in Category I are eligible for a fellowship with the programme. These scholarships are valid in any Indian university or institution where the selected fellow enrols in a Ph.D. programme.
